Gina Kowalski

Hello Ohana! My name is Gina, I am 28 years old and I have struggled with weight since I was 7 years old. I was chubby and unathletic most of my childhood, and I remember in middle school finding a running buddy in gym class and when another kid told us to hurry up she yelled, “Shut up, we’re fat!” I remember feeling stunned to hear someone else say what I always thought.

My weight yo-yo’d all the way through high school, and then I got mono during my first semester at college and ballooned up even more. I had my daughter at 20, and lost some of the baby weight, but not all. At 24 I had my son and from that point on, my weight went up, reaching an all time high in the spring of 2016 of 262 lbs. on my 5’4″ frame. I never felt good. I suffered from depression, anxiety and chronic pain. I could barely stay awake all day. Finally, that summer I decided to make a drastic change. I very quickly made the decision to have weight loss surgery.

I was sleeved 10/18/16 at 241 lbs. I have lost 100 lbs from my highest and I have never felt better! I have energy and confidence and I’m not lazy anymore. I love my tool, my amazing life, and Ohana, for helping me navigate it all! ❤️

I also want to add that I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have two beautiful babies, Leah (8) and Christopher (3). I am in grad school to become a school counselor, and I love crafting and writing in my spare time.
